Last weekend I have the good fortune to speak to Gary Vaynerchuk TWICE in the same day. It was magical! LOL. One of my fav questions to ask people is for their fav books. I knew Gary wasn’t a reader, but I still wanted to see if I could get something out of him, and I did – something very unexpected…

Not Everybody Wants to Read, Adam!

How did I forget that? We all have different learning styles. There is no one way to do things. And yet here I stand on my soap box insisting that you read. Tsk tsk tsk. I am going to make a conscious effort going forward to be aware of this, and where possible, suggest some other options.

One such option is conferences. Self-development is self-development. It doesn’t matter how you level up, it just matters that you are invested in doing so. For the longest time, I avoided conferences like the plague, with no good reason. I would say: “where is the ROI?” or “none of the speakers are interesting.”

What a load of bull.

It took one experience to turn me around and turn me around for good. Last weekend I attended The Real Talk Summit by Mantalks. I took away a lot, but it wasn’t what I expected. I didn’t fill a notebook with things to action, or tips. Instead, I took away:

  • A renewed outlook on self-development
  • Valuable connections, including a potential mentor or business coach
  • A new direction for my Youtube Show

…and much more.

I also learned something about conferences by accident. If you can swing it, spring for the most expensive ticket. There is a stark difference, on the whole, between the folks that paid $249 vs $949. What was that? The $949 folks had way more skin in the game. They were committed to leaving this conference with as much as possible. They
wanted to talk!

I remember distinctly being asked this question: “how can I support you?”

That question right there explains it all.
Good luck out there!

Adam
